National Aviation University

Here is the information about one of the universities of KievNational Aviation University (NAU). It is known as one of the most strong and big aviation higher educational institutions in the world.

TNational Aviation University, Kievhe university was established and started its work in 1933. From then NAU have been preparing thousands of specialists in aviation sphere, developing and growing and as a result for now it has 15 institutes, 7 colleges, 2 lyceums, the  Law Center of the Air and the Space, the European Regional Centre of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in its structure.

The educational process is organized on the high qualified level with the participation of the best scientific and pedagogical staff – 15 academicians, 265 professors, doctors of sciences and 850 candidates of sciences.

NAU is a member of the International Association of the Universities. At the basis of National Aviation University the International Civil Aviation Organization ICAO operates. It contains the European Training Centre of Aviation Safety and the European Training Center of preparation of the state inspectors on flight safety and on the proper condition of aircrafts.

National Aviation University occupies the territory of 72 hectares. The academic buildings’ total area is 130 thousand sq. m. During the training process there are used 75 aircrafts and helicopters, 40 aircraft engines, 3 aviation training apparatuses, 240 board systems, over 5000 modern specialized computers. National Aviation University obsesses a unique air base, which includes a training airfield, a unique aviation hangar, aviation ground equipment and a unique aerodynamic set with aerodynamic tunnel. Future pilots and experts improve their skills in real aircrafts in the largest academic hangar in Europe with the help of ground aircraft and special training apparatuses.

The library’s fund is around 2.5 million of scientific and technical books. The campuses for students’ uses of National Aviation University contain 11 hostels, a dining room for 1000 people, Internet cafe, a medical center equipped with advanced diagnostic and medical facilities, dispensary, Cultural Arts Center with a hall for 1500 seats, Sports Centre. There are clubs of aircraft modeling which are popular among staff and students.

 The language of studying at NAU is Ukrainian and Russian. For smooth integration of National aviation university’s graduates into the European and worldwide environment teaching of many specialties is held in English language. International applicants who do not know the language of instruction are proposed to start from the Preparatory Department, where they will study the language and main subjects needed for the future specialty course. Training term is 1 year.

NAU provides teaching on the next educational qualification levels:

  • Bachelor (duration – 4-4.5 years);
  • Master (duration – 1-1.5 years depending on the specialty).

International students also have the right to join the post-graduate school or doctoral studies if they successfully complete the Master course and demonstrate capacity for scientific and research activities. The department of post graduate education proposes a wide range of specialties in which international students can deeper their knowledge and skills and gain upper degrees and diplomas. Training term is 3 years. Languages of studying are Ukrainian or Russian.

    The studying year at NAU begins once per year on the 1st of September and lasts during 10 monthes (from September to June) with 2 weeks holidays period in January. 1-2 weeks of examination session take place at the end of January and June.
